Glasgow's reputation as Cinema City was well deserved, at one point having more cinemas per head of population that any city outside the United States. Nearly all areas of the city had at least one cinema, from the humble church or warehouse conversion such as The Paragon, Gorbals or Ardgowan, Tradeston to magnificent super cinemas like the Ascot, Anniesland and The Lyceum, Govan.

Most of Glasgow's cinemas have now been demolished, converted out of all recognition or lie derelict under the worthless "protection" of Historic Scotland's listed building system. My dedicated website at www.glasgowcinemas.co.uk chronicles the history of Glasgow's cinemas in more detail, with new material added regularly.
